|Welcome to the New York Aurors Department||
Dean is the second child of the late Lorcan O'Ciardubhain, former head of the O'Ciardubhain mafia family and leader of New York's Irish wizard crime syndicate. He grew up in a harsh world full of treachery and deceit in which he always felt somewhat out of place. His natural instincts made him uneasy with the thought of the murder, extortion, and other unlawful activities in which his family was involved. But, because of his central position within the mafia, Dean neither saw nor thought much about a way out. He chose instead to rely on his wits, forceful personality, and street savvy in order to keep him alive and to keep his hands clean of any of the family's wrong doing. He began teaching himself advanced techniques in compulsion, destruction, and protection magic in order to protect himself. This lasted until he was 19 and a fateful event on a cold rainy night brought him to an NYAD precinct broken and seeking asylum. It was that night that he met Cordelia Smith. He confessed his story of that night's events to her and vowed to himself to never speak of it again, though it continues to haunt him every day.
Dean was granted asylum and would soon prove useful to the Auror Department for his unique and detailed first hand knowledge of the interworkings of several of New York's prominent wizard crime families. Under Cordelia's tutelage, Dean finally felt that he had found the home and purpose he had been lacking. He would soon begin accompanying Cordelia on various assignments. His skillful protection and compulsion magic helped her bust several members of the mob and decrease the flow of illegal potions, dark artifacts, and other contraband into the city. He was even along side her during her high profile bust of cult leader Erebus Thorn. Cordelia's guidance and the four years hanging around the Department lead to considerable knowledge of the Auror profession. He was granted special circumstantial permission to take the necessary tests to become an official auror which he would pass.
As an NYAD Auror, Dean has not lost many of the traits he acquired growing up amongst the most ruthless gangsters in the wizarding world, compulsively maintaining his rigid personality and cynicism. He is intrinsically loyal to the pursuit of Justice at all costs but one peice of advice from his father still rings clear in his mind. "Rules are meant to be Broken."
A young Auror. Small, but with improbable good luck and a charming spirit, Felicity is a member of Team 6 at the NYAD along with Hugo and Icarus. She and Dean have a history in the department, and had much of their official auror training together. She may be fiery, and a fierce duelist, but her heart lies with those who cannot protect themselves. She joined to the New York Aurors Department to protect the weak, and keep the city safe for those who may not be as strong as she is.
Charlie Dempsey was born to Muggle Parents in Boston, Massachusetts. He had a dreadfully normal childhood until one day he accidentally turned one of his stuffed animals, a penguin named Wally Wabbles, real. The DMP was quick to send this Muggle-born wizard a magic tutor, Dr. David Eccelsmith, to instruct Charlie and protect the Statute of Secrecy. Dr. Eccelsmith not only tutored Charlie, but prepared him to attend the Salem Institute of Witchcraft and Wizardy where, thanks to his high marks on his practical exams, Charlie was given a full-ride. While there he became a world-ranked wizard duelist. He was also asked to join the prestigious Hangman’s Quarry Fraternity. While pledging the Quarry, he and the other Muggle-born/Half-blood pledges were subjected to a terrible attack where they were transformed into animals and forced to fight each other, all in the name of “hazing”. Charlie was turned into a cat and was forced to fight off another pledge who was turned into a raccoon. Luckily the fighting ring was broken up by the Elders of the Frat and the Brothers who were responsible for the “hazing” were quickly ejected from the order. Charlie remained a member of the Quarry, refusing to let his attackers scare him away, but it incited a righteous fury in him for Muggle-born rights and vengeful anger toward any who would harm them. Charlie eventually became the Salem Institute’s first Muggle-born Valedictorian, graduating with a Master’s in Transfiguration, emphasis in Transformations (becoming a cat Animagus was his Practical Thesis) and a Master’s in History of Magic, emphasis in Wizardy in Colonial America. Charlie decided to make the most of his dueling abilities and passion for Muggle-born rights and joined the NYAD. He resides in a small apartment in Tovenaar (Toven) Heights.
Eric Maurice Saint-Saens
Eric was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to a wealthy pure-blood wizarding family. He and his sister, Annette, are the 21st generation to live in the Saint-Saens estate, Le Lys Bleu, a large plantation home set on a hill covered in rare blue lilies. It was soon discovered that both Eric and his sister would prove gifted wizards. At the age of 4 (after learning how to read and write in both English and French) Eric enchanted a journal to have unlimited pages, and flip to a requested date upon request. Annette at 5 had enchanted her shoes to change style and function upon different ground (hiking boots for dirt, slippers for home, ballet slippers in her dance studio). At 14, he discovered that he was a parselmouth, a much-coveted ability for American Voodoo wizards, becoming friends with a large boa constrictor named Charlotte, who still resides with him today. Under the tutelage of his father, an accomplished voodoo wizard, Eric became very adept in the voodoo arts, and was accepted into the Marie Laveau University of Magical Arts. There he graduated Maxima Cum Laude with a double Bachelors degree in Practical Voodoo and Defense Against the Dark Arts, and a minor in Voodoo Combat. He also finished his MM Degree (Masters in Magic) in only one year, with his Masters thesis on the Advancement and Modernization of Voodoo through the Appropriation of European Techniques. Eric joined the NYAD for a number of reasons, partially for genuine interest in crime and detective work, but namely to satisfy pressure from his family (both at home and in France) for status.
