American Wizarding Governement
From the time the first Witches and Wizards set foot in the American Colonies, the Ministry of Magic was there to govern from afar and extend to these brave settlers any help they could muster; many of whom had, like their Muggle brethren, fled to the colonies to escape the political and religious maelstrom that had made landfall in England due in large thanks to Oliver Cromwell and his compatriots. The Ministry extended aid to the Wizarding Community of Salem following the horrors inflicted upon them during the trials of 1692, sent aurors to deal with dark wizards looking for new ways to cause mischief and strife for the Muggle colonists, and helped these colonial wizards form their first governing body. The Council of American Wizards (CAW) was established in a joint effort of the Ministry of Magic and the leaders of the Salem Institute in 1698. The head of the first CAW was Salem Institute founder and current Dean Rev. John Hale. This new governing body worked closely with the Ministry of Magic and eventually expanded its influence down the Atlantic Coast, later creating what would be the first “Colonial” Provinces. CAW was originally established as an extension of the Ministry, overseeing the day to day issues of the American Colonial Wizards and functioned as such until the shot heard ‘round the world was fired at Lexington, thus beginning the American Muggle Revolutionary War. The Ministry did its best to maintain close ties to CAW during the war, but it became apparent very quickly that governing/aiding from England was no longer feasible and was forced to sever direct ties to CAW. The current CAW was quick to act and taking its cue from the Muggle revolutionaries, established a kind of Wizard Continental Congress in Boston, drafted the US Wizard Constitution, and formed the first Magical Congress of the United States of America with current CAW leader Benjamin Franklin sitting as the first President of the Magical Congress of the United States of America.
The Magical Congress of the United States of America (Est. 1778), stands as the current governing body of the American Wizard Community. The Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA) makes its home in Boston, MA; the Capital for the American Wizarding World. The Congress is made up of 50 delegates, 5 delegates from each of the 10 Provinces within the United States. Currently presiding over the Congress is President Samuel G. Quahog.

Colonial Provinces
1. Yorkton (Est. 1698-CAW, 1778-MACUSA)
Capital: Boston, MA The first established province, Yorkton encompasses most of New England and stretches West reaching the western-most border of Minnesota. With Boston serving as both capital of Yorkton and the US Wizarding World, the city houses many Wizarding Government institutions such as MACUSA, the US Aurors Dept, and the Department of Magical Peoples (DMP). 3. Chesapeake (Est. 1700-CAW, 1778 MACUSA) Capital: Jamestown, VA Consisting of Muggle Virginia and North Carolina, named after neighboring Chesapeake Bay, the province is home to the largest Fire Whiskey distillery in the Country, located in a secret room among Historic Mount Vernon. Washington developed a taste for the drink when introduced to it by his close friend and Wizard revolutionary William Fairfax during the war and had it installed within the walls of his estate. 5. Nouveau Monde (Est. 1812-MACUSA) Capital: New Orleans, LA Made up of the majority of the State of Louisiana, this province holds jurisdiction over the large voodoo practicing population inhabiting “Bayou Country”. 7. Appalachia (Est. 1715-CAW, 1778-MACUSA) Capital: Chattanooga, TN Aptly named for the surrounding mountain range, this province reigns from West Virginia through to the Eastern Border of Texas. This province produces the least amount of Witches and Wizards who go onto Wizarding Colleges, choosing to teach all magic in the home. 9. The Great Plains (Est. 1855-MACUSA) Capital: Cortez, CO The largest of the provinces due to the sparse Wizard population in the area, Great Plains spreads from Idaho to North Dakota down to Kansas and back again to Northern Nevada. The Capital resides near the naturally occurring magical vortex known by the Muggle population as “The Four Corners”. |
2. Excelsior (Est. 1700-CAW, 1778-MACUSA)
Capital: New York City, NY Made up of Manhattan and most of New Jersey. The smallest of the wizard provinces, but has the highest Wizard population. Due to its eclectic collection magical persons from around the globe, the province has been given the nickname “The Melting Cauldron”. 4. Dixieland (Est. 1720-CAW, 1778-MACUSA) Capital: Savannah, GA Includes what Muggles commonly refer to as the “Deep South”. Stretches from the Southeast Atlantic Coast and spreads across to Northern Louisiana. The social elite of this province pride themselves on maintaining the gentility of the Antebellum South and uphold those traditions, even in these contemporary times. 6. Meridia (Est. 1830-MACUSA) Capital: Chicago, IL Presiding over the Wizards of the Midwest, Meridia spreads its borders from Eastern Pennsylvania to Western Oklahoma, stretching as far North as Eastern North Dakota. The first of the “Westward Expansion” provinces, this governing body aided witches and wizards as they braved the wild frontier. 8. Rosa Amarilla (Est. 1840-MACUSA) Capital: Amarillo, TX Established during the time of Cowboys and Indians, Rosa Amarilla extends from Southern Nevada east to encompass the entirety of the American Southwest. This province includes the US’s maximum security Wizard Prison, deftly disguised as a top secret military base in Southern Nevada. 10. Pacifica (Est. 1865-MACUSA) Capital: Los Angeles, CA The youngest province, this West Coast governing body includes the entirety of the Pacific coastline, Alaska, and Hawaii. The most progressive of the provinces, Pacifica has had the most close calls in breaches of the Statute of Secrecy. |
